For Organizations

Liberatory change means that, over time, more people thrive in a more just and peaceful system. For organizations, that means more effective collaboration and problem solving, less turnover, and generally less stress on the system.

Working in more just and peaceful systems increases well-being for everyone in the system; there is increasing evidence that as organizational cultures shift, there are parallel shifts in the larger social fabric.

Organizations who take up liberatory efforts benefit in one three levels: organizational effectiveness, individual well-being, and contributing to liberatory social change.

Organizational Practices for Liberatory Systems Change

Liberatory Organizational Design, Maintenance and Renovation

With a focus on artifacts and structures that define an organization, liberatory organizational design, maintenance, and renovation creates “containers” for more people to thrive in more peaceful organizations Following a metaphor of architectural integrity, the ILI has developed a template for liberatory organizational design, maintenance, and renovation.

Collaborative Thinking and Learning

Working with community leaders facing divisive socio-political challenges, the ILI has developed a unique blend of collective experience, peacekeeping circles, and collaborative thinking to disrupt cycles of disconnection and disparagement.

The ILI has developed a version of this approach in organizations, to help organizational communities think differently about socio-political challenges that limit the possibility of individual and organizational thriving.  We are seeking organizational partners to pilot this resource.

Equity Scholarship

Following two years of action-research in collaboration with educators, the ILI developed the Equity Scholar in Residence model for schools. Combining compassionate, restorative responses with learner-centered education and responsive scholarship, the ESR model has resulted in substantial increases in educators’ confidence and willingness to engage complex and difficult issues of social equity in schools.

The ESR model has proven to be an effective alternative to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion approaches that rely on training, singular leadership or policy. The ILI has developed a version of this model or organizations.  We are seeking organizational partners to pilot this resource.
